The story behind The Verner P. Globe Lamp

Known for his ecclectic use of colour, shape and material, and his enduring influence on the psychadelic period of the 1960s, Verner Panton's Globe Lamp is typical of his most productive period. First released in 1969, as Panton was at the top of his game, he used the design as a way of exploring reflection as a way of accentuating light. Long fascinated by moulding curves from plyable materials like plastic, glass and fibreglass, he saw the potential in the pendant lamp medium to, at last, utilise a complete sphere, and thus the Globe Lamp was born.

Verner Panton represents design without borders. Verner Panton’s vision: to create design using unconventional techniques.

"Choosing colours should not be a gamble. It should be a conscious decision. Colours have a meaning and a function."
