Panton C1 Ottoman

Our Verner Panton-inspired C1 Ottoman sits at the ideal footstool height, and is a gorgeous combination of crisp, smooth steel and soft, tactile cashmere. Designed as the ideal partner to Panton's C1 Chair,it was a forerunner to the classic 60s style that Panton helped to shape. Available in bold black, light grey and vibrant orange materials,it still makes a real statement, despite being over 50 years old.

The story behind the Panton C1 Ottoman

Designed as the perfect partner to the C1 Chair, the C1 Ottoman was released in 1959 as part of a range which included both the Cone Chair and the Heart Chair. Verner Panton was one of the very first designers to experiment with simple geometric shapes and bright eye-catching colours, and the Ottoman was one of the earliest signs that psychedelic 60s design was on the horizon. Its sleek steel base added a touch of Danish Modernism to a design that would become an icon of the Pop Art movement.

About the Designer

Verner Panton

1926-1998 (Denmark)

Verner Panton was the first architect to work with form and design using plastic as his main material. When he created the Panton chair, the world’s first single-form, injection-moulded chair, it was considered a revolutionary technique back in the 1960s. Throughout his life Panton created innovative designs that combined materials in unconventional ways and was greatly influenced by the impact of colour on his work . Verner Panton represents design without borders. Verner Panton’s vision: to create design using unconventional techniques.

"Choosing colours should not be a gamble. It should be a conscious decision. Colours have a meaning and a function."
