The Brno Chair

Our Mies van der Rohe inspired Brno Chair is a minimalist's icon. From the angular seat and backrest to the curved stainless steel frame, the chair is a paradigm of purity and elegance. The chair is upholstered in top grain aniline leather, which has a natural appearance that improves as it ages. It comes in a choice of colours – black, brown, dark brown, camel, sand, red, white and cream.

The story behind The Brno Chair

Mies van der Rohe designed the Brno Chair in the 1930s as part of his groundbreaking design of the Tugendhat House in Brno, Czech Republic. The house is often viewed as the blueprint for early functionalism and the modernist movement. Both the house and furniture are celebrated for their sleek designs, clean lines and meticulous attention to detail. It is said there were 24 Brno Chairs in the original house, which were placed at dining tables, desks and side tables.

About the Designer

Mies Van Der Rohe

1886 (Germany) -1969 (United States)

Ludwig Mies van der Rohe was a German-American architect and is regarded as one of the most important figures in the history of architecture. His ‘less-is-more’ approach to design became the gold standard for many generations of modern architecture. The simple forms and extravagant materials Mies van der Rohe used to design the Barcelona Pavilion have inspired many modern minimalist buildings including Capel Manor in Kent, England.
