1870-1956

Austrian architect and designer Josef Hoffmann produced works that were considered to be challenging the established norms of the time. He was one of the founders of the Vienna Secession and was an acquaintance of artist Gustav Klimt. Hoffman commissioned a total of 15 architectural projects of which include the Sanatorium Punkersdorf (1904) located in the outskirts of Vienna. He also developed a matching Punkersdorf Armchair and was equally dedicated to designing furniture. His most recognised piece is the bold 1910 Kubus armchair which proved Hoffmann’s unorthodox creativity and ability to think ahead of his time. Josef Hoffmann’s vision: To introduce controversial yet sophisticated designs.
