Hans Jorgen Wegner

1914-2007

In 1950, according to the renowned American magazine Interiors, Hans Jørgen Wegner succeeded in designing the world’s most beautiful chair. International interest in Wegner’s work culminated when a club in Chicago placed a single order for 400 chairs. This was a huge order but the Americans wanted the chairs and waited patiently for them for several years. It was therefore only natural that when the whole world followed the live Kennedy/ Nixon presidential debate on TV in 1960, the candidates were seated in Wegner-designed chairs. Wegner chairs are worth waiting for and a joy to sit in.
