Barcelona Chair

Reproduction of Mies van der Rohe's Barcelona chair

Famously designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe to furnish the German Pavilion at the 1929 International Exposition in Barcelona, the inspiration for the Barcelona chair is said to have come from the upholstered stools used by Romans.

The secret of the chairs success lies not only in its relaxed style but in its materials and construction: an elegant combination of mirror-polished stainless steel frame with plump cushions, covered in precision-stitched squares of fine, aniline leather - order one in white to add instant glamour to a bedroom.

THE BARCELONA CHAIR – German quality The German Ludwig Mies van der Rohe was the man behind The Chair, which was named after Catalan pride, Barcelona. Despite its very simple design, the Barcelona chair has now won its place among the heavyweights such as Arne Jacobsen's Swan and Paul Volther’s PK31 on the international design scene. LONG TIME FAVORITE The Barcelona Chair was originally designed for the world exhibition in Barcelona in 1929, and is therefore among the oldest designs on Voga.com. The aging chair though is still doing well in competition against the many new chairs, each year, drawn by the young aspiring architects. This is probably due to Mies van der Rohe’s appreciation of brilliant craftsmanship and the use of exclusive materials. Therefore, many of his furniture are almost indestructible - among is The Barcelona Chair, which because of its simple design and the wise choice of materials is a very strong and durable chair that is well suited to families. THE BARCELONA SERIES If you have space and money to buy a whole set, we recommend switching your current living room to Mies van der Rohe's Barcelona series. Recline on the long sofa, take a rest on the elegant bench or curl up in the Barcelona chair when you need a siesta. Relax your feet on the square stool, or use it as a guest chair, when friends invade your living room. The Barcelona chair is classic and modern at the same time, and it fits into most homes. Buy it before your neighbour.
